As you may have noticed, today is an extra day. Since we have it only once every four years, it can't be expected to add anything to the GNP, so I hope that you all have celebrated leap day as I have: by doing nothing economically productive, and perhaps by doing a thing or two that would have fallen by the wayside in the ordinary course of time.
Unfortunately, someone has neglected to declare tomorrow a Sunday...
Posted by Marie Gryphon on February 29, 2004Another great leap day activity: proposing marriage. According to law in Scotland, France, Switzerland, and Italy, a woman may propose marriage to a man only on 2/29. Wikipedia says, "The man may, of course, refuse but, by tradition, he should soften the blow by providing a kiss, one pound currency and a pair of gloves (some later sources say a silk gown)." So if you wanted to get down on one knee, it seems you've missed your chance.
