Ah, to be European

The Italians are all a flutter about two competing controversial plans to restore Michaelangelo’s “David,” which stands gracefully in a surprisingly modest room in the Galleria dell’Accademea in Florence. Art restoration is something of a national sport in Italy, a country where half the population apparently cares for priceless works of Renaissance art while the other half sells tickets to tourists who want to see them.
